I know, there's much photos and stories about the Sinulog that you can read and view already. But let me share my little post anyway.

Sinulog is the most festive. Most celebrated. Most visited social occasion in the country if i may say. And the most awaited affair by most if not all Cebuanos. It's more than a week long celebration that culminates every 3rd Sunday of January with a grand mardigras participated not only by Cebuanos but by other neighboring provinces as well. New York crowd scene? Hongkong scene? Far cry from the Sinulog scene? Almost!

Last weekend, i went to a friend's house and see if the laptop i have (not mine) can work perfectly with her internet connection. Unfortunately, for some reasons, it wont. Well, i didn't dwell on the issue. I still can blog anyway. More still, i couldn't get away with the fact the wireless technology is really a utilitarian discovery. One can remotely connect to a particular unit or piece of gadget without the need for cables.

For a family like mine with 5 sisters, using a wireless router is really a convenience. Come a time that i should be buying this Netgear WGT624SC Super G Wireless Router for a sleeker connection. It features automatic scanning of connected PCs and detailed security reports. Wireless speeds of up to 108 Mbps and 400' range.

Or this Belkin N1 Wireless Router can equally be sufficient. As connecting this router to your cable or DSL modem lets you share your broadband internet account with all your networked computers.

Well, as you can see, we are evolving into a wireless world!

Ailyn's bday!

Ailyn's birthday was on November 14 but she celebrated it today with her girlfriends at work. We decided to meet in SM since it would be less crowded. People this weekend are hauled in Ayala because of the weekend sale. We had lunch in Cafe Laguna. Ailyn and Charo arrived first then i arrived next. The busy mother, Lenny, arrived a little over before we were done eating. Oh my, we ordered lots of foods. It's like we were having a banquet, somewhat similar to San Diego banquets if you are really on a food trip. We strolled and went shopping afterwards. Whew! Really fun malling with the girls. Had coffee in Figaro after getting tired of roaming around. We had photos but i'll have to upload them next time. We chanced on Aisah and Nelbert (colleagues) in one of the boutiques. Charo and I went to Ayala afterwards and spent a few more hours strolling. It's a good thing i'm wearing flat sandals. Guess what? None of us went home without a new dress! Haha! :P

I was literally just lazing, sitting and watching tv, changing channels every so often last night. I was bored but I was too lazy to move my butt and do something else or go elsewhere. I was gonna eay my dinner already and my boredom was cut short because sudddenly everything went off. Brownout! Or call it blackout. I'm really weird because i pursued eating my dinner anyway. Isn't it a challenge eating in the dark? LOL! Good thing, i found a candle and instantly transformed my dinner into a romantic one. The rain started pouring... it got creepy because thunders were so loud. It's as if i were in the movie 'War of the Worlds', thunders were roaring it felt it's going to eat me! I immediately covered the TV and mirrors with cloth. I don't know but i was always told by my mother to cover the TV and mirrors when there are lightnings. Then my mind wandered. I was imagining i have a house with cheap in-ceiling speakers to maximize acoustics? Maybe, viewing tv nor listening to music could be a whole new experience because sound effects is improved. Sounds cool huh!

I have always wanted to become an accountant but perhaps i'm probably not destined to become one. I just realize i hate computing taxes anyway. :P That could have been one of my tasks had i landed a job as an accountant. Speaking of which, i was really surprised when i read in one of the company newsletters that my elementary classmate is already the new plant comptroller. Wow! Hurray to her! That's a blazing achievement for her age, our age. I was surprised because i didn't know she joined my company but her getting the position ain't a surprise. My friends are achievers! Yeah, i'm gloating. :P Ok, back to me not becoming an accountant. I also don't understand this thing called mortgage. So, it's really a pitty had i become an accountant. I do read that there are lots of types of mortgages and lots of companies offering services. Amerisave Mortgage is one of those and is one of the largest retail mortgage lenders in the US. So, if you're looking into mortgage firms, you might as well check them out.

why i blog?

Bloggers and the likes have various reasons why they blog. Personally, i blog because it is my avenue in letting out what i think and feel. Friends don't listen much of whatever you say. My journal, my blog, can take so much of what i can utter and pen. I get to hear other people's comments as well who may just have the same thoughts as i am. That's a bonus, right? Somehow, writing lets you connect to other people. In the corners of this world, someone is feeling what you are feeling and thinking of what you are thinking. I think that is pretty overwhelming. Some bloggers wish to inform. To share their expertise. To share a level of knowledge that others may have been looking for. One of those bloggers i stumble upon is Dennis Carey, an HR specialist. He got this very informative blog that HR practitioners could use of. Blogging is definitely one great medium for information exchange.

We're just about halfway of the month yet Charo already started some plans for the department Christmas party. Too early but probably not since planning a party for about 200 people is a bit tedious. I am almost always a member of the program commitee during summer and christmas gatherings. I sometimes wish i'm not because i wanted to be surprised! Being a committee member, you'll know what's in store in the party.

The above picture was last year's invitation i made. I suddenly miss my old friends. I suddenly miss the old electronics group. Waahh why is everyone leaving!?!? :(

Last night - Charo, Ailyn and I craved for pizza. Well, we crave for pizza almost all of the time! It's 12 midnite and we're in Lapulapu. Yet, we still went to Fuente in Cebu City just to eat pizza! :D If only Lapulapu City has food chains, kiosks or shops that is open for 24 hours, then we wouldn't have to travel for 30 minutes or so just to eat pizza! Originally, we wanted to eat in Pizza Hut but they close earlier compared to Shakey's so off we ate in Shakey's. We got another recruit! We managed to win over Pai to go with us. Careful Pai, diet does not exist in our vocabulary. :P

pingpong 4th match

The semi rounds concluded earlier with me and Ailyn playing in the women single's category. I lost against Ailyn from blue team. It's a good thing that whether I lose or win, green team is already in for the final rounds. (Otherwise, i'm to be blamed, hehe!) We'll be competing against the blue team. I thought it's going to be the red and blue team vying for the championship round but obviously it's not going to happen! Furthermore, i thought that if we'll make it to the final rounds, we are to compete against the red team. Unfortunately though for the red team, just a slip of .5 point against us and they lose their chance of playing in the finals. If they could have won 1 match from last night, they are in for the finals. So, go go go green!

I'm really not good when it comes to gadgets and tools. I cannot decipher which brand is better over the other. I cannot even tell what specifications to look for. It's a good thing though that if I'll just read enough, I can readily find guides in buying laptop computers online.

I wanted a laptop for Christmas and I don't realize that in buying one, there are these many categories to consider and to choose from. Including your budget, desktop replacement, thin and light, ultraportable, gaming, table PC and great battery life. You also have to consider the weight and portability, hard drive size, RAM, chip speed, number of ports, WiFi/bluetooth compatability and CD/DVD drive. While browsing, i think i really want to own a Sony Vaio notebook. Very slick and they come in different colors! Friends, i'm giving you a hint!

Hopping from one shop to another just to find that perfect laptop is kind of very tiring. So if i were you, i'd take no fuzz and just sit and browse. You get to find all the major computer brands there is. You only not get computer trivias, you might as well get tips on how to get the best.

Third match today against the blue team. Yahooo!!!! Alfer and I won against Charo and Reggie in the mix doubles category. Rachelle and I won against Libeth and Pai in the mix women's category. I was waiting for Ailyn to show up for the woman single's category but she stood me up! So, my last match would be against Ailyn, results of which will determine who's going to play in the finals. (oi pressure!)

Although they last set foot on the grounds of L*** Corporation last September 26, we had our despidida for Jona and Macelle last September 19 after the Sportsfest Opening Ceremony. We had dinner at Golden Cowrie in Lahug and went to K1 afterwards. As always, eating in Golden Cowrie is great - unlimited rice plus all those delicious filipino food! I'll skip posting photos of the food this time as someone by the name of Splat will die drooling at the pics. Haha!

Terai and her partner (i forgot the name) won against Aisah and Soc in the mix doubles category. I lost but it's okay. I'm learning a lot. I'm enjoying pingpong even more. Still catching my breath... I just finished playing pingpong (tabletennis) against the yellow team! Yahooo, I won twice! I won in the women single category. Then Terai and I won in the women doubles category. Nice results for our first match. Next game (tomorrow or next week) would probably be against blue team. That's against Charo and Ailyn! I came in early so i can go out early. Ailyn texted me that she's on her way to Lapulapu. So we agreed to eat dinner together in A&R Grill. Poor girl, she has to wait for me for an hour or so because i had a last minute task to do in the office. And the tricycle driver was useless - he said he didn't know where A&R is and he brought me to a different street. I was already angry so i said to the drive to just drop me off and i'll walk my way.

unplanned 'lil reunion

It's raining very hard this afternoon yet I pursued in checking my supposedly new apartment in Lapulapu. Well, not really my apartment but my college friend's apartment. She and her roommate is looking for a boarder to occupy the vacant room. I have been planning on moving to Lapulapu since i already feel exhausted commuting everyday. I requested for a repaint on my room and it's already done. I can't check the room anytime because my friend has a different working sched as i am so I braved the flood (yay!) just to get there! I was that excited! :P

My friend, Sheila, received a call from another college friend just a few minutes after i arrived. Cherry was calling because she wanted Sheila to join her in a nearby fastfood resto. She was stranded in the parlor because of the heavy rain. We haven't seen each other for quite sometime already so Sheila and I decided to go outside and eat dinner with Cherry. I once again braved the flood (yay again! :P) together with Sheila. We took the jeepney bound to MEPZ2 gate. I was already wet, the other passengers were also wet anyways. (Now i know where to blame my never ending cough and colds)

We really don't have much options plus the heavy rain so we catched up with each other's lives while eating Baconsilog and bbq. =)

We didn't plan on seeing each other but it was great to see two good old friends. The rain does sometime bring pleasant surprises.

Went out early and meet Ailyn and Charo in Ailyn's apartment. The two girls bought pizza and was already waiting for me in the rooftop. I tag along Macelle who wanted to drink beer to ease her monthly period - not sure if that has some medical proof though. Can 4 girls consume two boxes of pizza? Surprise, we almost did! We were on the dark rooftop with only the moon as our light and the sound of a crazy woman nearby shouting as our music. Pretty romantic setting for lovers eh?

Some very sensible things we talked about:
1. what happened to the shabu lab under the bridge?
2. why is the adjacent house so dark? are their shabu labs in there too? are there monsters?
3. is the 'agta' or 'kapre' in the tree an addict too? you know since he lives near the shabu lab

Last July 19, I met in person another fellow blogger who's also a member of Bisdakplanet. The meeting place? Not your conventional meeting areas i.e. malls, restaurants or bars. We met in the hospital! Yes folks, we met in the hospital. She hails from Utah but has decided to come home and deliver her 2nd baby here in Cebu. The last info i got from her was that she's going to have her baby through caesarian delivery on the 8th of August at 7:00am in Succour Hospital. But i was surprised when she texted me friday evening that she already delivered her baby and that she was confined in Cebu Doctors Hospital instead. So, by Saturday evening, Glorie (also a blogger) and I visited her and see each other for the first time. I'm surprised even more! She looks bigger in pictures but in reality, she's so petite i can very well comprehend why she has to go through caesarian delivery. But she's very tough, she doesn't seem to have undergone an operation or something. :) Well, let's give her the credit of telling us her birthing story...

After the dinner in Lighthouse Restaurant, off we went to Offroads, a coffeeshop in Panagdait near Sykes Building. We usually go to this place after eating or going to Paseo. Is this sign of aging? We just love to sit and talk and do nothing else. Or is it just me? hehe.

July 14, my natal day! There's no turning back, lol! I planned on waking up early and then go to church. Nothing new, i woke up late so i changed my plan and went to church in the afternoon instead. I was absent from work but still i came in to reply some important business emails. Glorie picked me up at around 5:00pm and off we went to Sto. Nino Church. I received a phone call from a former colleague wishing me a happy birthday. I was relieved for quite a time, i thought this person was mad at me for some things i did last month. I'm glad to know he has no ill feelings to me contrary to popular belief!

I should hear the mass but we were late so i just uttered my sincerest prayers and thanks, then proceeded to Lighthouse Restaurant in Mango Avenue to meet my close friends in the office. Too bad, not all were present.

We had a good time taking pictures especially when the desserts were served! LOL! Jai (a colleague fresh from Spain) just arrived and managed to be with us in the later part of the dinner.

This post is the continuation to my previous entry on meeting another Bisdakplanet member.

Glorie and I picked up Chikai and her husband at Pier 6 last April 29 at around 9:00pm. Since it was a bit late, we were left with few choices on where to eat. So we ate our dinner at NeoNeo Grill in Mabolo. We then just toured around the city (Waterfront, Paseo, IT Park, Mango Avenue) for an hour or so. Glorie and I thought that the couple must be tired from the entire boat trip from CDO.

The following night, I invited Chikai to watch the movie When Love Begins but of course she could not leave her husband alone. Well, men don't usually like drama-lovestory movie and Tagalog at that! So, i went ahead and watch the movie with my officemates (planned 2 weeks ahead). Glorie was out busy with her business. I watched the last full show by the way because we did not make it to the 7pm showing. It was too late for a night out for Glorie, Chikai and I. Sorry Chikai for that but we hope you enjoyed your short visit here in Cebu. It was really nice meeting her in person. She is pretty and warm as she is in her blog :)

Last September 29, we had no work because of local elections. Genalyn, a friend from Luxembourg whom i met through the internet is in town. (She'll be leaving tomorrow back to Lux) Glorie and I were just waiting for her go signal as to when and where to meet. Finally, we had our 2nd meeting last Monday. She was also here last year in December. It was really nice seeing her again. I will have to post more photos from Glorie when they're available. Went to Banilad Town Center last Saturday with Glorie and our other friend. Among the many restaurants in the area, i've only tried in Krua Thai. So, it was a great experience trying out another restaurant - Spice Fusion. Ahmmn their food is superb. I'm just frustrated with the dessert that we ordered. Thank you very much Mr. A for treating us to dinner.

Last night was really fun - I had a date with two gorgeous women. (maybe next time two gorgeous men napud LOL!) Madame Phoebe was here in Cebu and she met us, Glorie and me. It was our second time to meet her but this time was quite a blast. We dined out (of course her treat, thanks jud madame ug sa pasalubong) and spent the rest of the night just talking and chitchatting. Sure thing, all her words of wisdom and tips are kept in mind. After office hours some of us went to IT Park and dined at RaiRai Ken, a Japanese Resto. Almost all of the shops in the area were jampacked surprisingly not just with couples but just with bunch of crowd chilling. That works to our advantage, no romantic couples dating to envy for! wahahaha! :D

After Abuhan, we proceeded to Mocha Blends while others went to Chowking in Mandaue Highway. (kaon ra gihapon! heheheh!)

On saturday, i attended the shower party of my friend. It was fun. Afterwhich, we went to IT Park and had some coffee and sweets in Mocha Blends. (hmmnn my third time, advertise na ni hah!).

For quite some time, I've been wondering where on earth the people are loafing. Am i that old not too know of the latest places where people hang out? It could not be in Mango Avenue where a comedy bar's a hit. Ayala gets too quiet when the clock ticks past midnite. Neither it could be in BTC (Banilad Town Center) or Crossroads? My questions had been answered last December. The people are alive in IT Park/Asiatown! Mao diay! naa ra diay didto ang mga fifol! hehehe! :)

Yah i know, my entries recently are very late when compared to the actual dates when things that i wrote happened. Ok, this will be my last entry about last year. I just don't have the time to write the soonest. :P

I've already mentioned last year (hehe) that i was going to attend two weddings in December last year (hehe again). So here are some moments captured. taoist temple revisited

It's been like what? 15 years or more? - since the last time i went to Taoist Temple - one of Cebu's few tourist spots! heheh! Well, of course not to mention the beautiful beaches. Geezz i'm that old! I still can exactly remember what i wore in my last picture then - a white shirt and a mint green pedal shorts. I was sporting a short/boy's cut hairdo. Though i can't remember how we get there and what's the occassion and who i was with? But most probably, i must be with my sisters and cousins. I can't seem to find the picture now for a comparison.

After Glorie and I met with Genalyn and company last month, Glorie had to tour around her other friend around Cebu. I accompanied them hoping i could be of help but apparently Glorie and I both sucked being the tour guides. We knew nothing which places to go to! LOL!

Good thing, i had the chance to check out Taoist Temple again. The Gaisano's had made some improvements on the property. It's more spacious too. The nearby temple, Heavenly Temple, brought back childhood memories. Used to go there with elementary classmates just trecking the mountains from Guadalupe Shrine to Lahug.

I haven't been to the cyberworld for a week. I'm off from work and i don't have internet at home so it'll mean no blogging.

December 2 - the day after our Department Christmast Party, a few of my girl friends went to Jona's humble abode. We just hang out and ate and chitchatted. Our first time to visit her new house in Consolacion. It was fun. Her house is nice. The houses are nice. The subdivision is nice. Her husband cooked for us. Hehe! By the way, girl friends = girl officemates. :)

Dec 8 - our company wide christmas party held at NASA Disco. Unfortunately, i did not stay long as i wasn't feeling well. I had to leave early. Heck! first time my face is nowhere to be found in the group pics! lol! I got one pose to share though.

Her nickname is Gugs. Quite unique for a name huh! But it used to be Love. Ay katam-is! Once our manager said "does she have other nickname?" Hmnnn must be sensational calling his subordinate Love. An offshore counterpart once said to my male colleague - is she your girlfriend? She must have heard him calling Love all the time. Tsk! makaduda! Seemingly, some of my male officemates find it unenviable to call her Love. I eventually started calling her Gugma. It is not as slushy as compared to the english term right? Well, what do you know, there came the word Gugs! Ain't that hip and cool for someone whose real name is Ma. Fe Lovella? Happy Birthday Gugs! Thanks for the treat! :) --> Trivia: She's got that healthy appetite yet she never gets fat!

octoberfest '06

Have you ever experience those times when you overslept, say you slept for over 12 hours? You woke up with a severe headache as if your head was hit by a raging stone? Then when you get back to sleep at night, sleep is an elusion? Saturday night was miracle of all miracles, I got to sleep at around 1:00am, that is way much earlier than my usual 2:30am sleeping time. I slept like a baby that I woke up around 4:00pm the next day, sunday. Inasmuch as i was happy I had a good long sleep, i was miserable i woke up nursing a headache. Apparently, my eyes were wide awake last night so i'm like a zombie right now. :P

Going back to the post title, niagi ug nahuman ang oktoberfest nga wala koy nakita nga kalingawan. Activities from previous years were usually held in SM Mall or Ayala Mall. But i guess since these two malls are busy reconstructing (adding new building), they pass up having the octoberfest held in their vicinity. So the octoberfest in Cebu this year was held in Colon, in the old SSS grounds. It was jampacked when I pass by the area but i guess the venue is not too auspicious to the 'conos' if you know what i mean.

Personally, i was never an avid fan of the octoberfest. I don't usually go out on nightouts. But in the long run, i came to enjoy going out once in a while since my peers are up to such events. Here are some photos from last year's octoberfest.

Last Saturday was the long over due 'date' courtesy of Gugs - thanks Gugs! We had been planning to check out Table 7 in Ayala but because we always report to the office mid-shift, we never get to do it on weekdays after office hours. Finally, we had the time last weekend. Guess we all needed a break...

Don't ask me to rate the food because i'm not good at it. I just eat ok? LOL! Bitaw dili pud super lami, dili pud bati. But the place is cozy and the waiters are nice. Nabitin si Gugs sa iyang dessert kay wala cream iyang pineapple crepe! hehe!

The SWV Cutties went out last Monday (Aug 28) for a little gathering at The Vinci Pizza in Marina Mall in LLC. Haayy at least we now have 3 options - MBs, JCAs and DaVinci! As you may know, there's not much place to hang out around here in LLC. There are a couple of restos in Marina Mall but they close as early as 9:00pm. It's good to be with the group once again...

'chicken inasal' as how Ilonggos would call it
In Cebu, if we say 'inasal', we mean 'lechon baboy'. Lechon baboy is cooked by grilling a whole pig with its stomache filled with all those condiments. The innocent pig (hehe) after being slaughtered and cleaned is inserted (what's a better term for this?) with a bamboo from its mouth down to the butt part (haha again, any better term??) then the bamboo is rolled over heating charcoal. Lechon is one of Cebu's famous delicacies. A celebration is not complete without a lechon especially on fiestas. In Bacolod, friends told me that they have their version of 'inasal'. What they have is chicken inasal, not pork inasal (pig inasal doesn't seem to sound right). They say our version of chicken inasal is not quite good as theirs.

Last night, we went to Tres Amigos, a simple cheap kiosk something located in the streets of Lapulapu City. It is owned by some folks from Bacolod so they sure serve their famous chicken inasal. Well then, their grilled chicken is tasty. I think it's more sapid than how we Cebuanos cook chicken bbq.

She will be leaving for Michigan tomorrow and will be away for 6 months or so. Happy trip mi amiga y kumare. May the force be with you! LOL! Don't forget our 'pasalubong' eh! :D

My so called "buddy" in the office left already. She has resigned but is still working here in Cebu so we still see each other sometimes. We had her despidida last May 16. You see, all my entries are backtracked. I wish i could post them right there and then.

We had dinner in Tong's in Marina Mall. It's an eat-all-you-can restaurant which is famous for its abundant baked 'Talaba' or mussels. What i like is the abundant 'lechon kawali' and shrimps if available.

Sexy Baboy. For those of you who understand the word baboy, the phrase is a bit funny or cute right? Baboy is the cebuano dialect for the word pig. And sexy baboy is not just a phrase or an adjective describing a pig. Sexy Baboy in fact is a name of a native restaurant owned by a Korean national. If you happen to know the onwer, correct me if i'm wrong.

After the photoshoot of the pregnant woman last June 15, a week before she gave birth. Me and the 'backgrounders' were hungry and would naturally find a nice place to eat at. Alfer, the photographer, suggested we'd go to Sexy Baboy. I was intrigued so off we went. The place is located in A.S. Fortuna in Mandaue.

We were supposed to eat at Angelina's in Banilad but was cancelled cause we didn't finish the photo shoot of Lenny that Sunday evening. Then last Sunday, it was almost cancelled because of the typhoon. At about 6:30pm, the rain stopped so we decided to push through with the dinner. It was dark when i went out, total blackout in the neighborhood. Pero basta kumakaon gani sama nako, walay makapugong! We ate at La Tegola Italian Restaurant in Marina Mall. The pregnant woman wasn't around because while we were eating, she's at the hospital giving birth. Heheh! Mangtas nga mga amiga! LOL!

Just a quick update on my entry Lenny's baby shower. My friend, Lenny, delivered her first baby last Sunday already - no other perfect time to deliver a baby than during a typhoon! She gave birth to dear Baby Samantha in Cebu Doctor's Hospital. She was on labor for just 2 hours. What a record! Sam weighs 6.8 lbs with thick black hair. She sure is a darling. I wanted to nickname her Frankie because of the typhoon's name but i changed my mind. The typhoon brought a lot of distress to hundreds of bereaved family because of the sea tragedy. It's depressing to remember. Oopps, i'm about to shift topic again. Welcome to the world baby Sam!

Last May 04, Charo, Melody and I organized a shower party for our officemate and friend, Lenny. Sintclaire has given birth to her beloved Caleb already. Lenny is about to. Will all of Ritchie's angels become a mother? (Ritchieeee help me! LOL!)

The party was held at the future parents' humble abode in Vistamar. It was still fun even if there were only few of the girls who were able to attend.

Are you are from the city and wants to go anywhere South of Cebu? You can escape the traffic from Colon down to Basak to Talisay and can have a better driving experience if you take the SRP route. The road is wider and nicer. You can even go for driving on faster speed. All this time, I have been wondering what does the acronym SRP mean? I finally had a chance to go to Argao and pass through SRP on a broad day light. My question has been answered...

Last April 27, Glorie with some of her friends and I went to Simala in Sibonga. Sibonga is a town located south of Cebu near to Argao. We decided to take the SRP (South Road Properties) route so I waited for her in Sto. Nino church. It would be easier for her to pick me up then. While waiting, i felt i was a tourist of Cebu, my hometown for crying out loud! I was standing near Magellan's Cross and everyone there was busy taking pictures and buying souvenir items. It felt awkward standing there all alone. I decided to grab my camera and took some pictures too! LOL! I even bought some items also. So, here are some photos...
